Welcoming a new baby into the family is such a special time, and capturing those precious early moments with professional photography is a wonderful way to preserve those memories forever. When it comes to photographing a newborn baby girl with her older brother, there are a few things to keep in mind to make the session a success.

  1. Prepare your child for the session. Talk to your older child about the upcoming photo session and what to expect. Encourage them to be gentle and loving with their new sister, and explain that the photographer will be taking pictures of them together. You can also involve your older child in the session planning by letting them choose a favorite outfit or prop to include in the photos.
  2. We will work with sibling to choose a comfortable pose for them to hold baby sister or brother. We have interacted with every type of comfort level with siblings and are happy to assist sibling with the safest posing for baby.
  3. We will assist you with coordinating outfits and props. Choosing outfits and props that coordinate well together, without being too matchy-matchy. Soft, neutral colors are great for newborns, while older siblings can wear brighter or bolder colors if desired.
  4. Keep in mind we will take breaks as needed. Newborns need frequent breaks for feeding, changing, and cuddling, so be prepared to take breaks as needed during the session. This can also be a good time for the older sibling to get some one-on-one time with mom or dad, or to have a snack or play with a toy.
  5. Relax and have fun. The most important thing is to relax and have fun during the session. Allow your children to interact naturally, and allow us to capture those sweet moments of sibling love and connection. Remember that the photos are meant to capture a special time in your family’s life, and that the memories you create during the session are just as important as the photos themselves.
